VCARS is an acronym
for Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral
Service.

Community
and volunteer based crisis response program that
provides a variety of immediate, short-term crisis assistance to persons affected by crime,
tragic circumstance and disaster.

Operates
24 and 7, 365 days per year.

Staff
and trained volunteers provide emotional support,
practical assistance and an information and referral
program, on-site or by telephone.

Role is to assist
victims in identifying immediate needs,
transportation, personal support, available
options for support, and providing referrals to
community agencies for longer term assistance.

Works in partnership
with local police services
(Smiths Falls Police
Service, Perth Police Service, Lanark County Ontario
Provincial Police), and
community partners*.

Facilitates
VQRP (Victim Quick Response Program) for victims
of crime.

Designated
VCARS-LC volunteers have also lent their
services to police for assistance in times of
disaster.

A not-for-profit,
charitable organization, funded by the
Ontario Ministry of the Attorney
General, Ontario Victim
Services Secretariat.

Services offered
free of charge and based on the concept of
'Neighbours Helping
Neighbours, Community Helping Community'.
