How VS-LC Helps Police

  • Enables police officers to attend to front-line duties and focus on law enforcement.

  • Allows police to concentrate on the investigational process; while VS-LC tends to the needs of the victim(s).

  • Comparable to ONE STOP NETWORKING – a repository of services in the social service network.

  • Allows officers to respond to other calls sooner.

  • Facilitates Emergency VQRP to help police transport victims, arrange for statements, or ensure follow-up has been completed.

  • Responders and Staff are acutely aware of local services, resources, pertinent information, that can further assist victims.

  • Provides resource information for longer term support and care.

  • May be able to assist victims who require interpretation, since many volunteers have command of alternate language skills.

  • Can either recommend or provide literature, videos etc. on occurrence subjects (e.g. suicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, grief & bereavement).

  • Provides assistance with personal safety planning with referrals to experts.

  • Can provide follow-up telephone contact or can arrange transport of victims on behalf of police.

  • Referral by police demonstrates concern and that reasonable steps are being taken to protect the personal rights and safety of victims and witnesses.

  • Can assist with orientation to appropriate referrals and the criminal justice system.
