Victim Services-Lanark County (VS-LC) is a volunteer and
community-based program that provides assistance to victims
affected by crime, tragic circumstance and disaster. We provide
emotional support, practical assistance, information and
referral programs.
There are currently 46 operational Victim Service sites in the Province
of Ontario.
VS-LC is a transfer payment agency (TPA) with
core funding provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General,
Ontario Victim Services Secretariat.
We are mandated to provide immediate, on-scene, short-term, and
in-office support, 24 and 7, 365 days per year.
The police and VS-LC volunteers assist police by
ensuring that victims receive appropriate and timely care. We
effectively work together to support victims with care, respect
and dignity.
However, VS-LC is a distinct and separate
entity. Upon police referral, VS-LC services are
immediately available to consenting victims. Although most
referrals come from police, VS-LC will respond
to self referrals, by telephone or office visit, to ensure
safety.
In addition VS-LC takes
VQRP referrals
from agencies working with victims of crime.
VS-LC also receives calls for
information from social service agencies and other VS-LC and
emergency service providers.
